In the field of Public Health, we provide education at all three levels – bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral. Both the rigorous examination process and doctoral studies can be completed at our university in Slovak, German, or English.
The main focus of public health is prevention. A unique feature of our university is that nearly all lecturers have practical field experience, gained through both domestic and international projects. Our students are also invited to actively participate in these activities.
Graduates can find employment in:

A public health professional is considered a university graduate who has completed the prescribed Public Health study programme, officially recognized in the country where it is delivered, and who has obtained the qualification required for registration and professional practice.
Graduates of the Public Health programme gain the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to perform the healthcare profession of a public health specialist. Upon completion, they meet the requirements set out in the “Education Standards for Professional Competence in Healthcare Professions” (Annex No. 2 of Government Regulation No. 296/2010 Coll.).
During their studies, students acquire expertise in medical, humanities, and specialized public health fields, with competencies focused on health protection, promotion, and improvement. This includes:
state health supervision
health risk assessment and analysis
preparation of documentation for risk management
monitoring and evaluation of environmental health factors
health promotion and preventive activities
The Department of Public Health provides university education at the:
Bachelor’s level (Bc.) – 3 years, including 3 months of professional practice
Master’s level (Mgr.) – 2 years, primarily theoretical instruction
Doctoral level (PhD.) – usually 4 years, available in Slovak, German, and English
The department also offers the possibility of completing a rigorous examination (PhDr.) in Public Health in Slovak, German, or English.
Education is delivered in accordance with:
Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education
Government Regulation No. 296/2010 Coll. on professional competence in healthcare
EU Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications
Teaching is carried out mainly online, according to the official study schedule.
Public Health can be studied at our university at the Department of Public Health in Bratislava.
Theoretical instruction is provided through lectures, seminars, and practical exercises. Clinical practice may be completed at selected Regional Public Health Authorities and approved public health workplaces.
Admission requirements follow the general university conditions. Applicants must have completed:
full secondary general education with a maturita exam (grammar school), or
full secondary vocational education with a maturita exam
Applicants must also prove medical fitness for the profession according to Ministry of Health Regulation No. 364/2009 Coll., by submitting:
a medical certificate
a motivation letter (brief, clear, no more than one page, describing motivation, achievements, abilities, and skills)
