Why Study Laboratory Diagnostic Methods in Healthcare?

Our lecturers are closely connected with laboratory practice. In lectures and practical classes, they provide hands-on knowledge, engaging case studies, and real-life examples from professional practice. Graduates are qualified to work as medical laboratory technicians and may continue their studies at the second (Master’s) level in the external form of the programme.

You can apply your knowledge and experience in research, management, and education.

After completing the programme, graduates may find employment in:

  • public healthcare institutions (hospitals – departments of clinical biochemistry, clinical microbiology, clinical genetics, clinical hematology, clinical immunology, pathology departments)

  • national public health institutes (laboratory departments – environmental microbiology, hygiene, immunology)

  • research institutes focused on healthcare or biomedicine

  • private healthcare facilities (private microbiological, immunological, biochemical, and other laboratories)

  • research institutes focusing on non-communicable diseases, environment and health, infectious diseases, occupational health, and related areas


Career Opportunities for Graduates

Graduates of this study programme are capable of independently performing assigned tasks within laboratory medicine departments, including:

  • clinical biochemistry

  • hematology and transfusion medicine

  • microbiology

  • immunology

  • genetics

  • toxicology

  • pathological anatomy

  • clinical pharmacology

  • functional diagnostics

  • related diagnostic disciplines

They develop the ability to work with professional documentation and healthcare information systems.

Competencies: Students are able to competently apply their knowledge and skills when solving both model and real-life professional situations.

The Institute of Health Disciplines ensures optimal study conditions for both standard students and students with specific needs.

Health fitness requirements for applicants follow Ministry of Health Regulation No. 364/2009 Coll. (§1 – Criteria for Health Fitness for Applicants to Healthcare Study Programmes). In specific cases, procedures follow the Study Regulations and Rector’s Directives.


Admissions

Study Programmes Offered

We provide first-cycle university education (Bachelor’s degree) in the study programme Laboratory Diagnostic Methods in Healthcare, delivered in external form. The programme lasts three years.

The Master’s degree lasts two years.

Within continuing education, the department also offers external Bachelor’s, Master’s, rigorous examination procedures, and doctoral studies in Laboratory Diagnostic Methods in Healthcare.

Theoretical instruction is delivered through lectures, seminars, and practical classes. During your studies, you will gain knowledge and skills in laboratory medicine, including clinical biochemistry, hematology and transfusion medicine, microbiology, immunology, genetics, toxicology, pathological anatomy, clinical pharmacology, functional diagnostics, and related diagnostic disciplines.


How to Apply

Admission requirements follow the general university conditions. Applicants must have completed full secondary education with a school-leaving examination (maturita).

For professionally oriented bachelor’s programmes, compulsory professional practice in a contractually cooperating organization is included for at least one semester, aimed at developing practical professional skills.

Applicants must also:

  • provide a medical certificate confirming health fitness according to Ministry of Health Regulation No. 364/2009 Coll. (to be attached to the application),

  • submit a motivation letter outlining their motivation for admission, study, and professional practice, as well as their achievements, abilities, and skills.
