Procedure for Registering for the Dissertation Examination (All Fields of Study)

A doctoral student in the external (full-time) form of doctoral study must apply for the dissertation examination no later than within 3 years (within 18 months) from the beginning of their studies by submitting an application for the dissertation examination.

1. Submission of the Application

Students shall submit the application together with the required attachments in person (or by post) to the Doctoral Studies Office.

Attachments to the Application

  • Dissertation in comb binding – 2 copies
  • Diploma from the rigorous examination (if completed during PhD studies)
  • Language examination protocol (copy)
  • Summary of earned credits during studies (completed form signed by the supervisor) + all previous annual evaluations
  • Doctoral student’s publication activity (completed form)
  • Copies of publications
  • Fee for the dissertation examination in the academic year 2024/2025 is €220
  • Curriculum vitae

Ethics Committee

  1. Issues statements on research projects of dissertation theses of third-degree university students and research projects of university teachers before their implementation.

  2. Does not issue statements on research projects that have already been assessed by another duly established Ethics Committee (set up by a research institution, healthcare facility, etc.). This also applies to the types of works mentioned in point 1.

Conditions for Taking the Dissertation Examination

  • Previous academic years completed (annual evaluation submitted and tuition fees paid)
  • At least 90 credits obtained
  • Completion of compulsory lectures
  • Successful completion of the language examination

Dissertation Examination

  • The examination consists of a written and an oral part.
  • The written part includes the submitted written paper for the dissertation examination.
  • This written paper consists of the dissertation project (theses), containing the theoretical foundations of its future solution, the current state of knowledge on the topic, and an analysis of the methodological approach to addressing the issue.
  • The doctoral student prepares a PowerPoint presentation of the dissertation project, lasting a maximum of 7–10 minutes.
  • The oral part consists of a professional examination in individual subjects according to the field of study.
